Casio Expands Edifice Lineup with Affordable 38mm EFR-109 Series

Casio's new Edifice EFR-109D series comes with 4 watches — 2 of them are pictured here.

Casio has quietly added a new collection of Edifice watches to its European websites, and they might just be the most accessible entry point into the brand's modern 38mm offerings. The EFR-109 series has appeared on Casio's European regional sites with four distinct models, all carrying a wallet-friendly price tag of €119.

A Closer Look at the Four Models

Three of the new releases feature classic stainless steel bracelets. The EFR-109D-1A sports a versatile black dial, while the EFR-109D-2A offers a sophisticated navy blue option. Rounding out the steel trio is the EFR-109D-3A, which pairs a green dial with elegant gold-toned hands and hour markers for a touch of vintage flair.

The fourth variant takes a different approach entirely. The EFR-109L-7A features a warm cream dial mounted on a perforated brown leather strap, giving it a decidedly more casual, driver's-watch aesthetic. It's clearly the model Casio favors in its promotional materials, and it's easy to see why.

Design Details and Specifications

Casio's marketing for this series leans heavily into automotive inspiration. The entire lineup was photographed alongside a Toyota 2000GT from the Toyota Automobile Museum, with accompanying copy celebrating sports cars whose designs have stood the test of time. It's a fitting theme for a watch collection that emphasizes timeless styling over trendy gimmicks.

The EFR-109 is a straightforward three-hand watch with a date window positioned at 3 o'clock. Applied baton markers and a thin printed chapter ring add visual interest without cluttering the dial. The stainless steel case measures 45.3 x 38 x 9.8mm, making it slim enough to slip comfortably under a shirt cuff. Casio also highlights the slightly domed crystal, which adds a touch of vintage depth to the dial. One thing to note: it's mineral glass rather than sapphire, which is expected at this price point.

The Practical Stuff

In terms of functionality, the EFR-109 keeps things simple and reliable. Water resistance is rated at 10 bar (100 meters), suitable for swimming and snorkeling but not diving. The quartz movement delivers accuracy within ±20 seconds per month, and the SR920SW battery should keep things running for approximately three years before needing a replacement.

The bracelet models weigh in at 97 grams and feature a triple-folding clasp with a one-touch release system. The leather strap version is noticeably lighter at just 44 grams, making it an attractive option for those who prefer a more streamlined wearing experience.

Availability and Pricing

All four models are currently listed as "coming soon" on Casio's Spanish, Dutch, and German websites, though no official release date has been attached to those listings. However, German watch retailer Uhren-Nerd reports that Casio's German store shows an October 1 release date, so interested buyers shouldn't have to wait too long.

At €119 across the board, the EFR-109 series represents solid value for anyone seeking a well-proportioned, vintage-inspired watch from a trusted brand. Whether you opt for the classic steel bracelet or the more casual leather strap, you're getting a lot of style for relatively little money.
