Apple Partners with LG and Schneider Electric to Launch Ambitious Smart Home Collection

Apple has teamed up with LG and Schindler Electronics to launch a bunch of new IoT devices

Cupertino, CA – Apple has officially unveiled its most significant smart home initiative to date, announcing the Apple Home Collection—a comprehensive lineup of connected accessories developed in collaboration with industry giants LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The announcement marks a strategic shift for Apple, which typically focuses on first-party hardware, by instead partnering with established manufacturers to create a curated ecosystem of smart home devices.

According to Apple's official press release, the new collection includes indoor and outdoor security cameras, a video doorbell, a smart deadbolt lock, thermostats, and temperature sensors—all designed to integrate seamlessly with Apple Home.

A New Approach to Smart Home Integration

Unlike traditional third-party smart home products that require separate apps and accounts, the Apple Home Collection devices offer one-tap setup directly through iPhone. Every accessory supports Thread networking and can be controlled through Siri or the Apple Home app, eliminating the fragmented experience many users face when building a smart home system.

"Apple Home Collection makes it easy to choose smart home accessories with confidence," said Matthew Costello, Apple's vice president of Hardware Engineering. "Working closely with industry leaders LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, we designed every accessory to work seamlessly with Apple Home, so managing your home is simple, reliable, and private."

LG Leads the Camera Lineup

LG Electronics has taken the lead on the security-focused products, contributing four cameras to the collection. The LG Video Doorbell Wired features dual cameras—a 2.5K front camera for monitoring visitors and a Full HD bottom camera specifically designed for package detection. The system integrates with HomeView, HomePod, and HomePod mini, allowing users to see and communicate with visitors from anywhere.

The LG Floodlight Cam offers motion-activated dual floodlights and color night vision, while the Outdoor Cam provides similar low-light capabilities in a more compact form factor. Perhaps most innovative is the LG Indoor Cam, which automatically tilts upward when users want to check in and tilts down when household members return—effectively stopping surveillance when privacy is most needed.

All cameras support recognition of people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles, and packages. With an eligible iCloud+ subscription, Apple Intelligence adds automatic video summaries and natural language search capabilities, allowing users to find specific moments in recorded footage using everyday language.

Smart Access and Climate Control

The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock introduces Ultra Wideband technology that detects when an authorized iPhone or Apple Watch approaches, automatically unlocking the door without requiring any physical interaction. Alternative access methods include NFC, a PIN pad, and a traditional backup key. The lock's Matter compatibility and Aliro support ensure core functions work even without internet connectivity.

For climate management, both LG and Schneider Electric have developed smart thermostats featuring Apple's Adaptive Temperature technology. The system uses on-device intelligence from iPhone to automatically adjust heating and cooling based on occupancy patterns—whether residents are home, sleeping, or away.

In the contiguous United States, compatible systems can leverage Clean Energy Guidance to shift energy usage to periods with lower costs or cleaner electricity sources. Both companies also offer standalone temperature and humidity sensors to extend climate monitoring throughout the home.

Privacy as a Foundation

Apple emphasizes that privacy remains central to the Home Collection's design. All camera footage and personal data stored in the Home app are end-to-end encrypted, meaning neither LG Electronics, Schneider Electric, nor Apple itself can access user data. Video processing occurs locally on the user's Apple Home hub or through Private Cloud Compute.

Pricing and Availability

The Apple Home Collection will begin arriving in December 2026, with select accessories following in early 2027. Pricing starts at $39.95 for temperature sensors, while both smart thermostats are priced at $199.95. The LG Indoor Cam starts at $199.95, followed by the Video Doorbell at $249.95, Outdoor Cam at $299.95, and Floodlight Cam at $399.95. The Smart Deadbolt Lock rounds out the lineup at $349.95.

Availability varies by product category: cameras will be sold in the US, Canada, and the UK, while the smart lock, thermostats, and temperature sensors are initially limited to the US and Canada. Professional installation through ADT is available at Apple Retail locations in the US starting this fall.
