The acclaimed survival horror sequel finally arrives on Nintendo's latest console, complete with a physical Game-Key Card edition.
Nintendo Switch 2 owners have something genuinely terrifying to look forward to this week. PQube and developer Dual Effect have confirmed that Tormented Souls 2 (stylized as Tormented Souls II) launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, October 15, 2026—bringing its particular brand of fixed-camera nightmare fuel to Nintendo's newest hardware.
For those who've been waiting to experience Caroline Walker's latest ordeal on a Nintendo platform, this release marks a significant moment. The original Tormented Souls made its way to the first Nintendo Switch back in 2022, but the sequel skipped that console entirely. This Switch 2 version represents the series' first appearance on Nintendo hardware since then.
A Sequel That's Already Made Its Mark
Before diving into what Switch 2 players can expect, it's worth noting that Tormented Souls 2 isn't exactly a fresh release. The game originally launched on October 23, 2025, across PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It later arrived on GOG as well.
The reception has been strong. According to PQube, the sequel passed 100,000 copies sold within its first six weeks and earned nine award nominations by the end of 2025. Steam user reviews currently sit at "Very Positive" with over 1,700 reviews, while critics have praised its atmospheric density and puzzle design. IGN Deutschland called it "an atmospherically dense and mechanically captivating return to classic survival horror," while Noisy Pixel awarded it a 9/10, describing it as "a confidently crafted survival horror experience that leans into its classic inspirations while pushing the genre in creative directions."
Caroline Walker's Descent into Darkness
The story picks up after the harrowing events at Wildberger Hospital from the first game. Caroline Walker is attempting to build a normal life with her sister Anna, but those hopes quickly unravel. Anna has been plagued by violent visions—visions she compulsively turns into disturbing drawings that have a unsettling habit of manifesting into reality.
Desperate for a solution, Caroline takes Anna to Villa Hess, a remote town nestled in the mountains of southern Chile, where a mysterious clinic supposedly offers treatment. The retreat, of course, turns out to be anything but healing. Mother Lucia and her sinister cult kidnap Anna, forcing Caroline to navigate a series of decaying, nightmarish locations—including a convent, the Galería Luna shopping mall, an abandoned school, and cemetery mausoleums—to rescue her sister.
Old-School Horror with Modern Twists
What sets Tormented Souls 2 apart from many modern horror titles is its commitment to the survival horror fundamentals of the 1990s. Dual Effect has retained the fixed-camera presentation that defined classics like the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill, complete with limited saves and tank controls for those who want the authentic experience. However, an assisted mode offers a more accessible option for players who prefer a less punishing journey.
Caroline isn't defenseless, though her arsenal leans more toward improvised chaos than military precision. Players can wield makeshift weapons like a nailer and chainsaw, with a quick-select feature allowing mid-combat weapon swaps. Her supernatural abilities add another layer to puzzle-solving and exploration—she can switch between realities, alter the past to reshape the present, and discover alternate pathways in the nightmarish realm known as the Other Side.
A free New Game Plus update arrived on other platforms in February 2026, introducing the Electric Lance and Flamethrower weapons. Unfortunately, PQube's announcement doesn't clarify whether the Switch 2 version includes this content at launch.
Pricing and Availability
For collectors and physical media enthusiasts, the Switch 2 version is available both digitally and as a physical Game-Key Card edition. Pre-orders for the physical version have been open across Europe and North America since the July 28 announcement.
In the United States, GameStop lists the physical Switch 2 edition at $39.99 for pre-order. It's worth noting that because it ships as a Game-Key Card, buyers should expect to download the actual game data to their console—the physical card essentially serves as a license key rather than containing the full game.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is now available for purchase through the Nintendo Official Store, while PlayStation 5 owners can still find physical copies through retailers like GameStop.
The Verdict
Tormented Souls 2 represents a rare breed of horror game—one that respects its genre's roots while finding ways to evolve them. For Switch 2 owners who've been craving a proper survival horror experience on their new console, this release delivers exactly that. Just be prepared for limited saves, challenging puzzles, and the kind of atmospheric dread that lingers long after you've put the controller down.
