OnePlus 16 Is Almost Here: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, 185Hz LTPO Display, and a 200MP Camera in the Spotlight

The OnePlus 16 is expected to arrive on the 12th of this month with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC and 16 GB of RAM.

After months of leaks, rumors, and carefully timed teasers, the OnePlus 16 is finally just around the corner. The next flagship from OnePlus is expected to launch on October 12 in China, although the company has not yet clarified its global rollout plans. If history is any indication, fans outside China may have to wait a little longer for official availability, pricing, and carrier details.

Even so, the leaks have already painted a fairly detailed picture of what the OnePlus 16 could bring to the table. From a next-generation Qualcomm chip to a high-refresh-rate BOE display and an upgraded camera system, this is shaping up to be one of the most interesting OnePlus launches in recent memory.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a Massive Antutu Score

Courtesy of previous rumors, the OnePlus 16 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s fresh Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC. The next-generation flagship chip has been spotted on several benchmarks, and it is expected to boast impressive improvements in both multi-core and single-core performance, as per tradition. Qualcomm has not officially detailed the chip yet, but leaks suggest it will be a significant step forward for Android flagships.

According to leaked Antutu benchmarks, the OnePlus 16 paired with 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM managed to score roughly 5.38 million points on Antutu V12. As of this writing, the Antutu crown is held by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered Lenovo Y700 tablet with a score of “only” around 4.58 million points. That is a massive gap on paper, though benchmark scores should always be treated with some caution until retail units are tested.

Still, if the leaked numbers hold up, the OnePlus 16 could be one of the fastest Android phones of the year. The combination of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, LPDDR5X memory, and OnePlus’s usual performance tuning could make it a serious option for gamers and power users.

The OnePlus 16 will feature an OLED display with a peak 185 Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus will utilize LTPO panels manufactured by BOE.

A 185Hz LTPO Display Made by BOE

Now, as revealed by a OnePlus executive on Weibo, the OnePlus 16 will be equipped with a 185 Hz LTPO display manufactured by BOE. The news comes directly from the executive’s Weibo post, which has quickly become a talking point among OnePlus fans.

However, there is an important caveat: the 185 Hz refresh rate only applies to select gaming applications, and normal usage will be limited to 165 Hz. That is still extremely high by current standards, and it suggests OnePlus is targeting competitive mobile gamers who want every possible frame advantage. The panel will also feature a 1.5K resolution and will be surrounded by tiny 1.5 mm bezels, giving the phone a modern, immersive look.

Peak brightness details were not shared, but we do know that the panel will feature a minimum brightness of only around 1 nit, which should help a lot with late-night viewing. It has also been claimed that the panel will be quite power-efficient, drawing roughly the same amount of power as slower 120 Hz displays. If true, that would be a notable achievement, since high refresh rates usually come with a battery penalty.

A 200MP Main Camera and 3x Telephoto

As mentioned earlier, the OnePlus 16 is all set to go official on October 12 this month. The smartphone will also feature an impressive camera system, as we reported earlier, featuring a 200 MP main camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, as well as a 50 MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom and a Sony IMX882 sensor.

That combination sounds promising. A large 200 MP main sensor could deliver excellent detail, strong low-light performance, and plenty of flexibility for cropping. The 50 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom should be useful for portraits and everyday zoom shots, while the Sony IMX882 sensor has already proven itself in several recent phones. OnePlus has not confirmed the full camera setup yet, so details about the ultra-wide lens, video features, and software tuning remain unclear.

If OnePlus follows its recent strategy, we can expect a familiar Hasselblad-branded camera interface with improved color science and portrait modes. But for now, those are educated guesses rather than confirmed facts.

Launch Date and What Comes Next

The OnePlus 16 is expected to launch in China on October 12. A global launch has not been announced, and it is still unclear which markets will receive the phone first. OnePlus typically starts with China before expanding to India, Europe, and North America, but the timeline can vary.

For now, the biggest questions are pricing, battery capacity, charging speed, and software. The OnePlus 16 will likely ship with OxygenOS or ColorOS, depending on the region, and it may include new AI features. We also do not know whether OnePlus will offer multiple storage variants or a Pro model.

What is clear is that the OnePlus 16 is shaping up to be a flagship with a strong focus on performance and display technology. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, 185 Hz LTPO panel, and 200 MP camera are all headline-grabbing features. If OnePlus can price it competitively, it could be one of the most compelling Android phones of the year.

With only a short wait left until the official event, all eyes are now on OnePlus. The leaks have set expectations high, and the company will need to deliver on both specs and real-world experience. For now, the OnePlus 16 is definitely a launch to watch.
