| Prodigal is 91% off on Steam until October 8. |
If you grew up with the Game Boy Color Zelda games, Prodigal may feel instantly familiar. Developed by Texas-based studio Colorgrave, this indie adventure blends classic top-down exploration with a story about guilt, forgiveness, and coming home. It has also just hit its lowest price ever on Steam. During the Steam Autumn Sale, Prodigal is 91% off, dropping from just under $12.50 to $1.12. The deal runs until October 8.
A homecoming that isn’t exactly warm
In Prodigal, you play as Oran, a young man who stole from his parents years ago and left his hometown behind. After their deaths, he returns to Vann’s Point—where the welcome mat is nowhere to be found. As Oran digs into the town’s mysteries, he is forced to face his own past. Alongside familiar fantasy elements, the story tackles guilt, forgiveness, and personal relationships. It’s a premise that gives the game more emotional weight than your average retro-inspired RPG.
Classic Zelda energy, puzzles, and simple combat
Gameplay-wise, Prodigal clearly takes inspiration from the Zelda games of the Game Boy Color era. From the central town, players head into dungeons focused mostly on exploration and puzzles. Some switches need to be hit in the right order, while other puzzles require clever use of movable objects. New items open paths to areas you couldn’t reach before, so backtracking often feels rewarding rather than tedious. Collectibles, small minigames, and a relationship system with six possible romances add extra variety. Combat is intentionally simple: most enemies go down after a few direct attacks, and there are no complex combos or elaborate battle systems to master. Reviews praise the dungeons, world, and Zelda-like feel
In its review, KeenGamer highlighted the varied puzzles, well-designed dungeons, and convincing Zelda-like feel. The lively game world, likable characters, and atmospheric presentation also earned praise. Criticism focused on technical issues, occasional repetition, and a second half of the story that feels noticeably weaker. The romance mechanics are also fairly simple from a gameplay perspective. Even so, the positive impressions outweighed the negatives, and KeenGamer gave Prodigal 8 out of 10 points. On Steam, the game fares even better: 92% of more than 630 player reviews are positive.
A new all-time low on Steam
Prodigal normally costs just under $12.50, but the Steam Autumn Sale has cut the price by 91%, making it available for $1.12. The discount runs until October 8. According to SteamDB, this is a new all-time low, though only narrowly—the previous maximum discount was 90%. The game is also rated as “Playable” on Steam Deck.
For fans of classic Zelda-style exploration, Prodigal looks like an easy recommendation at this price. It may not reinvent the genre, and its combat won’t challenge anyone looking for deep action, but its puzzles, charming world, and emotional story have clearly found an audience. At just over a dollar, it’s hard to argue with giving Vann’s Point a visit.
