Development of a battery with which the smartphone can be operated for five consecutive days


Monash University researchers announced the development of a new battery they believe is the most efficient lithium and sulfur batteries in the world. According to the university, Li-S batteries can power smartphones for five consecutive days and allow electric cars to travel more than 1,000 kilometers without charging.

The research team looked at the main obstacles to the commercial production of lithium and sulfur batteries. Based on previously published details, the researchers redesigned the sulfur cathodes and used the same materials as standard lithium-ion batteries to adapt to high loads without sacrificing capacitance or overall performance.

Thanks to Li-Ion technology, the sulfur lithium battery is four times more energy efficient.

Researchers have found that the polymeric binder used in the manufacture of sulfur cathodes has been tested for its ability to produce dense microscopic structures without cracks, and we have demonstrated a simple process for creating electrochemical cathode structures. The effects of ion interaction and movement are minimal and expand during discharge to increase the normal volume, which can greatly improve performance meters.

The research document shows that the team has developed a method that binds molecules to absorb stress and ensure unprecedented stability.

The research team indicated that the battery prototype has been successfully manufactured by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany and will be tested in cars and networks in Australia at the beginning of the year.

A participant in the development process said that battery performance, low manufacturing costs, abundant materials, ease of use and reduced environmental footprint make design attractive for future practical applications.
