Vodafone is studying space to improve its network signals on Earth

Vodafone supports the satellite project to move mobile broadband networks from space, increases 4G network coverage for users without special equipment, and 5G network coverage extends through this band in the future.

Vodafone today announced that it has invested $ 25 million in Texas-based AST & Science design. This makes Vodafone an important investor in Vodafone and the Rakuten market in Japan.

The American company plans to launch the first SpaceMobile satellite network that can communicate directly with smartphones.

When users automatically move from the terrestrial network to the space network, the signal from the satellite network in near-Earth orbit helps to improve the coverage of mobile operators in rural areas or when the signal is interrupted.

"SpaceMobile will improve the smartphones of our customers in Europe and Africa, especially in rural areas, as well as natural and humanitarian disasters. Currently," said Nick Reed, CEO of Vodafone.

The telecommunications company said that the satellite network will not be used in the high-density areas already covered by terrestrial networks.

Vodafone, the world's second largest telecom operator, should assist AST & Science in validating its technology, providing ground equipment to support its satellites, and negotiating with regulators.

According to Vodafone, the technology is particularly suitable for very rural communities, so it can be used initially in some African markets. AST & Science successfully tested SpaceMobile (BlueWalker 1) technology on satellites launched last April.

It should be noted that the company (AST & Science) raised a total of $ 128 million in investments, including money raised by other investors such as American Tower, Cisneros and Samsung NEXT.
