LG promises to update Android in three years

LG announced today (Thursday) that it will release up to three versions of Android OS updates for its smartphones to allay consumer concerns caused by the company shutting down its mobile business unit.

The company previously published two generations of OS updates for advanced smartphones and one generation of OS updates for economic models, but it has since grown to three generations and two generations in a row.

The extended OS update time applies to smartphones launched since 2019, including premium smartphone groups and budget brands.

These include the G series (G8X and G8S), V series (V60 and V50), LG Velvet and LG Wing as well as Stylo 6 and K series (K92 5G, K62, K62, K42 and K22).

The company said: The advanced smartphones LG Velvet and LG Wing will be on the market in 2020 and the operating system will be updated before 2023.

According to LG, the exact schedule will depend on Google's OS rollout schedule and other factors such as device performance and compatibility.

The South Korean electronics maker said the expansion aims to allow the company to thank its customers and enable consumers to use their LG devices with confidence.

The company continues to provide customer service to global clients in accordance with local laws and regulations.

In South Korea, the company provides customer service for at least four years from the date of manufacturing.

"Consumers can still repair more than 120 LG service centers across the country," the company said.

After the cancellation is completed, customers can continue to use LG Pay for up to three years.

Earlier this week, LG announced that it would close its mobile business unit in late July.
