The richest man in the world sold $ 5 billion worth of Amazon shares

According to SEC filings, Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man, sold nearly $ 5 billion in Amazon shares this week.

The documents show that Amazon's general manager sold about 1.5 million shares at an average price of around $ 3,350 between Monday and Thursday.

The sale is part of a predetermined business plan, which means increasing the total stake of the world's richest man in Amazon from 53.2 million shares to 51.7 million shares.

The deal came a week after Amazon announced first-quarter results and beat Wall Street expectations as business continued to recover on the back of the popularity of e-commerce businesses.

The richest man in the world has increased his stock sales in recent years. Prior to that, nearly $ 4.1 billion worth of shares were sold in February.

Last November, Bezos sold more than $ 3 billion of Amazon shares, and last year he sold more than $ 9 billion of Amazon shares.

"About $ 1 billion of that money will go to his growing rocket company, Blue Origin, a few days ago," the Amazon founder said. A few days ago, the company announced that it would send its first astronauts into space this summer.

The world's richest man has provided additional funding for the First Day Fund, created in September 2018, to provide education to low-income communities and fight the homeless.

Last November, the fund awarded grants of $ 98.5 million to 32 groups.

Once Bezos withdraws from Amazon in the third quarter, these steps should be his focus.

The world's richest man turned over management to Andy Gacy, CEO of the AWS division, and took over the board of directors of Amazon.

Bezos is currently the first among the richest people in the world, with an estimated net worth of $ 192 billion. He still owns more than 10% of Amazon shares, or roughly 51.7 million shares, which is his main source of wealth.
