A research report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo showed that Apple plans to add a small LED display to the 11-inch iPad Pro in 2022, after introducing the technology in 12.9-inch models earlier this year.

Apple released new versions of the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro this year, both of which use M1 processors. But only the larger models have a small LED display.

Mini LED is a new screen technology that uses thousands of tiny LEDs to create a locally focused dimming area for better contrast and HDR performance.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro has 2,500 local dimming zones.

Kuo also said that Apple plans to introduce Mini-LED displays (the company sells it as Liquid Retina XDR) in its MacBook series of devices.

Prototype production of 14-inch and 16-inch mini LEDs is said to begin this quarter, and Guo believes that the redesigned MacBook Air with mini-LED technology will hit the market in 2022.

The analyst has already talked about it and said that cheaper iPad models are switching to OLED screens.

According to reports, mini-LED technology is the reason for the shortage of the new iPad Pro. This was prior to the launch earlier this year.

The device is still hard to come by in stores. Apple estimates through its US website that the delivery time for most models is between two and three weeks.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is testing a glass back instead of aluminum for the next iPad Pro. This can enable wireless charging of the device.

In addition, the agency is studying that Apple is considering the possibility of an iPad with a screen larger than 12.9 inches. But that shouldn't happen any time soon.

"We anticipate that new small LED display products in 2022 will include the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, as well as the all-new MacBook Air," Guo wrote.
