As part of its big strategy, Atari is shifting its focus from free mobile games to PC and platform games.

In a recent statement, the company announced that its board of directors approved the new plan on July 1, following a thorough review of the assets and capabilities of the Atari Gaming division.

Atari has a long history in the gaming industry and is one of the pioneers in the concept of the modern home gaming platform.

The redirect came less than a month after the release of the much-anticipated Atari VCS platform, which can be used both as an old gaming console and as a PC.

By reallocating these resources, Atari intends to leverage its extensive list of 200 intellectual property rights to develop high-quality games that can be deployed on all platforms.

Atari said it relies on its portfolio of 200 games and franchise products such as Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, and Pong to create new content for VCS and other platforms.

The first new issues are expected to hit the market in the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2022.

The new game is also optimized on the Atari VCS platform, which was released in the US about three weeks ago after years of development.

At the same time, the reorganization has caused problems with some of its mobile games, and many are expected to be discontinued or sold.

Affected games include Roller Coaster Tycoon Story, Crystal Castle, Castle and Catapult, Ninja Golf, and Atari Battle: Tank Fury.

Atari focuses on computer games

Despite being shocked by the competition in the free-to-play market, the company hasn't given up on games it believes are successful.

More generally, after indulging in mobile games, it takes a smarter approach to free games. Together with the MMO, along with the 2015 transformation plan.

"Our goal in every gaming experience is to have fun and interesting moments of useful games," the company said. This is the essence of Atari and the reason why our history is linked to the future. For this reason, we believe that high-quality games can better represent the gaming experience and the heart of the work.

Despite the new focus on high-quality games, the company continues to strive to develop and expand the range of successful free games in the market.

These changes affect the annual financial statements for 2020 and 2021 and resulted in a write-off of €5 million for the financial year ending March 31, 2021.
