There are rumors that Samsung and Xiaomi are developing a 200MP ISOCELL sensor that may not be used in the South Korean Galaxy S22 next year.

The number of megapixels in smartphone cameras has grown very large and far exceeds the image sensors that you find even in professional digital cameras.

Over the years, some cell phone manufacturers have proven that higher megapixels does not mean better photos.

However, that has not stopped manufacturers from continuing to bring phones with three-digit mega-pixel cameras to the market.

Given that Samsung has a 108MP ISOCEL HM3 camera in the Galaxy S21 without the engineering and manufacturing hurdles caused by such a sensor, we hope that trying to upgrade to 200MP is an option.

However, Samsung and Xiaomi have already experimented with ISOCELL Bright HMX, the first sensor to go beyond 100MP.

It is said that the two companies will once again work together to develop a 200MP camera. However, according to the news, the Galaxy S22 will not use this component next year.

On the contrary, the next line of flagship smartphones will remain with the 3rd generation ISOCELL HM3.

Galaxy S22 will not be equipped with a 200MP camera

For those who want to see the latest and greatest technology in Samsung's flagship line, this may seem like a disappointment. But it also means that Samsung is putting the quality of its cameras above specs and headlines.

Over the past decade, Samsung has used 16MP or less cameras on its flagship smartphones, then switched to 108MP camera sensors in 2020.

Judging by the performance of Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Apple, this decision makes sense.

The alleged 200MP sensor could debut on Xiaomi flagships later this year. ISOCELL Bright HMX compliant. While Samsung allows its partners to try it out first.
