Amazon opens its air hub to speed up deliveries

Amazon has opened a $1.5 billion aviation hub in northern Kentucky to expedite shipments and control its largest logistics network.

The opening is a significant milestone for Amazon Air, the company's new air cargo division founded in 2016, whose routes are operated by several contract airlines.

Airplanes, which cover the company's extensive network of warehouses, trucks and delivery vehicles, are always an important part of ensuring that packages are delivered to customers' homes quickly.

Amazon Air operates at more than 40 airports in the United States. But the new aviation hub will become the nerve center of the national maritime network.

As a result, the hub enables the company to increase its ability to deliver to other parts of the country overnight.

The company has expanded its aviation logistics division outside the USA and opened a 20,000 square meter regional aviation hub at Leipzig Airport in Germany last November.

In addition, the new flight center has been in development for more than four years. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos laid the foundation stone for the project in 2019.

“This hub allows us to deliver packages to customers faster,” Bezos said at the time.

The area of the center is more than 2.4 square kilometers. It consists of an airport, a car park and seven buildings.

It also includes an 800,000 square meter automated sorting center where parcels are sorted by zip code and placed on trucks before delivery.

Analysts are waiting for the position to be rolled out because it can significantly speed up delivery. And he helped the company catch up with carriers like UPS and FedEx.

Last fall's report said the mall was the backbone of Amazon's efforts to develop a full range of local delivery services in the United States.

It is designed for 100 passenger aircraft bearing the airline's logo. It handles about 200 flights per day. This reflects the company's ambition to provide more air freight services.

In addition, investors questioned whether Amazon was providing air freight services to other companies in order to generate new revenue.

Amazon Air now has more than 75 aircraft in the network. The company expects to have more than 80 aircraft by then next year. 85 aircraft will be leased and owned by the end of 2022.

In January, the company acquired eleven used Boeing 767-300s from Delta Airlines and WestJet. With plane prices dropping during the pandemic, this was his first direct purchase.
