The Mozilla Foundation has announced a new update for Firefox that introduces version 91. It replaces version 90 and earlier.

A major update to version 91 has been made to use private browser mode for an encrypted HTTPS connection by default (if applicable).

HTTPS supports secure and encrypted communication between the browser and the website the user is visiting. Standard HTTP communication sends data over the Internet in unprotected clear text so that hackers can intercept and view the data.

HTTPS is the default private browsing policy in version 91 of the browser.

Mozilla said: This is a huge improvement in the way we treat security-enabled web addresses.

The browser automatically checks every URL entered in the address bar to see if it supports HTTPS connections.

Web pages that do not support secure connections are processed over standard HTTP connections by default.

One possible caveat about using secure connections is that security is not achieved directly by loading page components (including images, styles, or scripts).

However, HTTPS ensures that the page loads as securely as possible. Mozilla stated that when a page is loaded over HTTPS, in most cases, the components of the page are also loaded over a secure connection.

Mozilla plans to make HTTPS the default option for out-of-incognito sessions in a future update.

Users of older browsers should receive Update 91 automatically. If you want to switch to Firefox from another browser, you can download version 91.

After Mozilla introduced a new printing interface in version 81, simplified printing was removed in the update, an option to convert content to an improved print version.

Simplified printing displays a copy of the page based on the browser-based player rendering feature. Emphasis is placed on how relevant content such as articles, images, lists, advertisements, etc. are not displayed on the website.

This option has been reset by your current browser version and you can select it again in the print dialog.

The browser supports the use of single sign-on to sign in to Microsoft work and school accounts on Windows.

There have been significant improvements to cookie protection, an update to the logic for deleting cookies, and it shows users which websites store information locally.

Even if Open instead of Download is selected, all downloads will be saved to the default folder or to the specified folder.

It should be noted that Firefox is not the only browser that uses HTTPS as the default protocol. Google Chrome version 90, released in April 2021, makes HTTPS the default browser setting for all sessions, not just private sessions. Version 90 also brings the AV1 codec to video chat.
