Nokia launches G50 phone with 5G technology

HMD Global continues to launch affordable Nokia Android phones as the company announced a new mid-range phone that will land in the US and several global markets.

The new G50 costs $299, making it the company's cheapest 5G phone to date. The device has all the components that can compete as a mid-range phone. Including 6.82 inch HD screen, large battery, audio interface and 18W fast charging function.

The new G series phones are similar to the Nokia X20 that was released in April 2021. However, the G50 has a larger screen and battery, and it is a version designed specifically for the North American market.

Like other $300 5G phones, the Nokia G50 comes with a Snapdragon 480 chipset. So don't expect this phone to offer the fastest performance or smoother gaming experience.

It has 4/6 GB of RAM, 128/64 GB of storage, and a microSD slot in case you need to save photos or sideload apps.

Compared to the Motorola G50 of the same name, Nokia has a slightly larger 6.82-inch HD display that can deliver 450 nits of brightness and has a V-shaped notch around the 8-megapixel front camera.

There are three cameras arranged in a circle on the back of the Nokia G50. 48MP main lens, 5MP ultra-wide angle lens, and 2MP depth sensor.

The front camera also offers video stabilization to sharpen blurry TikTok videos and a Night Selfie mode to brighten selfies in low light.

According to mobile phone maker Nokia HMD Global, the Nokia G50 runs on Android 11 and has two years of operating system upgrades (including Android 12 and Android 13) and three years of updates.

In other words, this cheap phone won't be a forgotten product in a couple of years, which is good for the environment and consumers who want to get the most out of their phones before upgrading.

And since it's a bulky mobile phone, the battery is also big with a capacity of 5,000mAh, which can be used for up to two days between charges. There's also USB-C, NFC, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and a dedicated Google Assistant button.

The Nokia G50 comes pre-installed with 30-day trial versions of Spotify and ExpressVPN. It is available in ocean blue or midnight sun. Pre-orders are currently available on the company's website and will ship on September 30th.
