DJI launches Action 2 modular magnetic camera

DJI has announced a successor to the Osmo Action Camera, which has adopted an entirely new design as the Action 2 has abandoned the Osmo name and focused on modularity, with a range of add-ons and accessories attached magnetically to the camera.

The mini camera module has a 12MP sensor capable of 4K recording, a 155-degree field-of-view lens, and a 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen with Gorilla Glass encapsulation.

Magnets let you attach another touchscreen (which can also extend battery life and add a number of microphones), an extra battery, or different mounts so you can attach it to a tripod or GoPro mount, or even become a camera as you carry it on a necklace.

Compared to the GoPro, every action camera can stand the comparison and specification of the Action 2 at the level of the Hero10 Black.

The Action 2, like the Hero10 Black, can record in 4K at 120 frames per second. But it doesn't have any higher resolution options (the Hero10 Black can record 5.3K at 60fps).

Videos play in slow motion at 240fps at 1080p instead of the 2.7k on the Hero10 Black.

It should be noted that the Action 2 is relatively small by comparison - it weighs 53 grams - about a third of the weight of the Hero10 Black. The DJI camera also includes 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD card, which the GoPro lacks.

Action 2 is very similar to a Gopro Hero session

There's also DJI's magnetic mount system that allows you to adjust the camera in ways that GoPro can't.

If you need a second screen or more batteries, you can install and remove them if you need a small camera.

Other accessories, such as a headband or a magnetic adapter that can be attached to a tripod, are similar to GoPro accessories. But it is easier to insert and remove the camera.

Action 2 also provides functions such as electronic stabilization, horizon calibration, and live broadcasting or use as a webcam. Regarding the color temperature sensor mentioned by DJI, it helps create better colors in complex lighting situations or underwater.

The Basic Action 2 package costs $399. Includes camera, power supply (extension of recording time to 180 minutes compared to 70 minutes for camera, additional microSD card slot), stand and short carrying cable.

You can also purchase a dual screen plan for $519 that has the same content as the Basic plan. But he replaced the power supply with a screen and added a common ball adapter.

DJI has announced that the Dual Screen Bundle will be released on November 2nd. Basic packs and most other accessories will hit the market in mid-November.
