Amazon is reportedly gearing up to refresh its iconic e-reader lineup. While the tech giant has been relatively quiet, a fresh leak has just given us our best look yet at the upcoming 12th Generation Kindle. If the rumors are true, it looks like Amazon is finally giving its entry-level e-reader a modern makeover.
Thanks to exclusive marketing images obtained by Roland Quandt of WinFuture, we now have a clearer picture of what to expect from the next budget-friendly Kindle.
A Subtle but Modern Redesign
The biggest visual change coming to the 12th Gen Kindle is the display. For years, Kindle screens have featured sharp, "perfectly square" corners. However, the new leak suggests Amazon is adopting slightly rounded corners for the E-Ink panel. This small tweak brings the device more in line with modern smartphones and creates a more cohesive look with the outer casing.
Additionally, the physical design is shifting slightly. The power button, which has traditionally lived at the bottom of the device, is reportedly moving to the top right side. This is a significant ergonomic change that users will notice immediately. The images also hint at two potential variants: one with a flush front panel and another where the screen sits slightly recessed within the frame. However, this could just be a trick of the marketing renders.
Colors and Display Specs
Don't expect a massive jump in screen size. The 12th Gen Kindle is expected to retain the classic 6-inch display with a front-lit screen, which remains the sweet spot for portability.
Where Amazon is getting playful, however, is with the color options. The leak suggests the new Kindle will be available in four distinct shades:
- Classic Black
- Light Blue
- Green
- Purple
This move away from just black and white suggests Amazon is targeting a younger demographic or users looking for a device that matches their personal style.
A New Kindle for Kids
Alongside the standard model, Amazon is reportedly planning a new Kindle for Kids. As with previous iterations, this bundle will likely include a specialized cover (often colorful and durable) and a longer warranty policy, making it a worry-free option for parents.
Pricing and Availability
As of now, pricing and official release dates remain a mystery. To give you an idea of what to expect, the current generation Kindle typically retails for around $150, while the Kids version often sits at a discounted rate.
