Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 processor

Qualcomm announced the second generation of Snapdragon 7c processors, designed for Windows PCs and Chromebooks.

At the end of 2019, the company announced the Snapdragon 8c and Snapdragon 7c processors for computers.

The biggest change to the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 appears to be the frequency boost, which has gone from 2.4GHz to 2.55GHz.

Like the original Snapdragon 7c, the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 has built-in LTE connectivity so you can connect to a cellular network, and Qualcomm promises to support longer battery life.

Qualcomm said in a press release: The first device with this chip will arrive this summer, and Lenovo promised to release a new device with a second-generation Snapdragon 7c processor later this year.

More and more chip manufacturers are producing chips based on arm architecture, which is supposed to offer better performance and energy efficiency.

The first-generation Snapdragon 7c processor was used in many Chromebooks.

The company said: The Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 runs 10% faster than most competing platforms and can provide longer battery life than competitors.

The processor contains Adreno 618 GPU, Spectra 255 GPU, and Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, so the processor can achieve a theoretical download speed of 800MB / s.

Qualcomm competes with Apple and the powerful M1 chip. You can now find it on MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Minis, iMac, and iPad Pro.

These devices are all more expensive than the types of devices targeted by the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, but Qualcomm's new chips may offer some of the advantages of Arm-based processors for cheaper devices (not from Apple).

When it comes to apps that run on laptops with Snapdragon processors and Windows 10, the company wants to encourage programmers to use Snapdragon Windows 10 SDK for platform approval.

Qualcomm worked with Microsoft to build the device and promised to publish more information at Microsoft's Building Developers Conference later this week.

The device looks like the Apple Mac mini that ships with the A12Z and is available for developers to enhance their apps with the new M1 chip.
