MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro Benchmarks Leak: A New Efficiency King?

The Dimensity 9600 Pro doesn't seem to offer headline-worthy performance improvements.

MediaTek has officially pulled back the curtain on its latest silicon, the Dimensity 9600 Pro. As the direct successor to last year’s well-received Dimensity 9500, this new flagship chipset is poised to power the next wave of premium smartphones from heavyweights like Oppo, Vivo, Samsung, and Xiaomi over the coming year.

While the chip was just announced, the rumor mill is already churning out solid performance data. Thanks to a detailed test run by the Chinese tech outlet Xiaobai's Tech Reviews, we now have a clearer picture of what to expect. These benchmarks were conducted on a MediaTek prototype machine, as the Dimensity 9600 Pro hasn’t hit consumer shelves yet. However, that is expected to change very soon with the anticipated launch of the Oppo Find X10 and Vivo X500 series in China next week.

CPU Performance: A Solid, If Familiar, Leap

If early leaks are anything to go by, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is delivering exactly what was promised. Rumors suggested a 20% CPU uplift over the previous generation, and the benchmarks seem to hit that target.

On Geekbench 6, the Dimensity 9600 Pro scored 4,216 in single-core and 12,765 in multi-core tests. This translates to roughly a 19% jump in raw CPU performance compared to the Dimensity 9500. While a near-20% gain is certainly respectable, it follows a predictable annual upgrade cycle. It is a decent improvement, though perhaps not the seismic shift some enthusiasts were hoping for.

The Real Story: TSMC’s N2 Node and Efficiency

Where the Dimensity 9600 Pro truly shines isn't just raw speed, but how it sips power. This chip holds the distinction of being only the second of its kind to be built on TSMC’s cutting-edge N2 node—trailing only Apple’s rumored A20 Pro.

This advanced manufacturing process has resulted in significant efficiency gains. According to the detailed breakdown from Xiaobai's Tech Reviews, the Dimensity 9600 Pro’s CPU appears to be up to 40% more efficient than the Dimensity 9500 on a performance-per-watt basis. For users, this means better battery life and cooler temperatures even under heavy loads.

GPU and Gaming: The Mali-G2 Ultra NX

On the graphical side, MediaTek has equipped the Dimensity 9600 Pro with the new Mali-G2 Ultra NX. The performance numbers here are equally impressive:

  • 3DMark WildLife Extreme: 9,245 points
  • Solar Bay Extreme (Ray Tracing): 3,104 points

Both scores comfortably exceed last year’s flagship standards, showing roughly a 15% performance increase over the Dimensity 9500’s Mali-G1 MC12. Interestingly, while the new GPU is faster, it appears slightly less efficient than the previous generation when both are pushed to full throttle. However, when matching the performance of its predecessor, the new GPU is up to 50% more efficient.

The Verdict

The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro looks like a calculated move by the chipmaker. Instead of chasing massive, power-hungry clock speeds, MediaTek is leaning heavily into the efficiency benefits of the N2 process. If these benchmarks hold true in real-world usage, the 9600 Pro could offer a battery life advantage that rivals—and perhaps beats—the competition.
