Samsung has quietly added another budget-friendly phone to its A-series lineup in Europe. The Galaxy A18 4G is now official, arriving as the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy A17 4G. If you were expecting a major overhaul, you won’t find one here. Instead, Samsung is focusing on small but useful upgrades: a new chipset, improved water resistance, and longer software support.
What’s missing? Any mention of a 5G model. Samsung hasn’t said when—or if—a Galaxy A18 5G will come to Europe, so for now, the A18 4G is the only version on the table.
A familiar design with a few small changes
The Galaxy A18 4G looks like a typical modern A-series Samsung phone, but it has grown slightly compared to its predecessor. It measures 7.7 mm thick and weighs 196 grams, making it a touch thicker and heavier than the Galaxy A17 4G, which came in at 7.5 mm and 190 grams.
Up front, you get a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2340 x 1080 resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. That’s a solid combo for a budget phone, especially if you spend a lot of time scrolling, streaming, or playing casual games.
Exynos replaces MediaTek
One of the biggest changes is under the hood. Samsung has moved away from the MediaTek Helio G99 used in the Galaxy A17 4G and switched to its own Exynos 1610 chipset. The phone ships with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, and there’s a microSD card slot for anyone who needs more space.
That setup should be fine for everyday tasks like messaging, social media, web browsing, and light gaming. It’s not a performance beast, but that’s not really what the A-series is about.
Battery, software, and cameras
Keeping the lights on is a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 25 W wired charging. That’s the same charging speed Samsung has used on several recent budget models, so don’t expect ultra-fast top-ups.
Software is where the Galaxy A18 4G makes a stronger case for itself. It runs Android 17-based One UI 9 out of the box, and Samsung promises six years of major Android upgrades—up to Android 23—plus security patches until the end of October 2032. For a budget phone, that’s a seriously long support window.
On the camera side, there’s a triple rear setup: a 50 MP main camera, a 5 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro shooter. Around front, you get a 13 MP selfie camera. It’s a familiar formula, and it should handle daylight photos well, though low-light performance may be more of a mixed bag.

Is the Galaxy A18 4G worth it?
The Galaxy A18 4G isn’t trying to be exciting. It’s a sensible, budget-minded phone with a nice AMOLED screen, dependable battery life, and unusually long software support. The lack of 5G could be a dealbreaker for some, especially as 5G coverage continues to expand across Europe. But if you want a low-cost Samsung phone that will keep getting updates for years, the Galaxy A18 4G makes a reasonable case—just don’t expect flagship-level performance.
