Apple continues to dominate the tablet market |
Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the iPad launched in June was its most successful quarter in nearly a decade.
Research firm IDC released its latest global shipment data today, confirming Apple's leading position in the tablet competition.
After the 2020 iPad Air update and the release of the updated iPad Pro earlier this year, Apple is expected to update the iPad mini next time.
IDC estimates that Apple shipped 12.9 million iPads in the second quarter. The closest competitor is Samsung with 8 million deliveries.
Chromebooks and tablets had another strong quarter in the second quarter of 2021. Despite challenging growth compared to the previous year, both categories posted growth.
According to preliminary data from International Data Corporation, Chromebook shipments rose 68.6% annually to 12.3 million units.
However, it's not a standard quarter for Chromebooks. But that's not far from the previous two quarters and breaks the previous record.
The tablet market is quieter than Chromebooks, but continues to grow at a 4.2% annual rate with total shipments of 40.5 million units.
Despite the positive quarterly results, there was some weakness in both categories compared to the recovery in previous quarters.
Apple continues to dominate
Although the demand for Chromebooks remains strong, sellers prefer Windows laptops. The reason for this is the constant shortage of ingredients.
Some are suitable for tablets. Even more worrying, however, is that consumer demand for tablets is declining much faster than Chromebooks or even the PC market as a whole.
“The education market continues to present a lot of opportunities for tablets and Chromebooks,” IDC said. Online learning is gaining momentum and driving the digital learning revolution.
"Although there is no one-size-fits-all solution worldwide. Many emerging economies still use Android tablets. Some schools in developed markets prefer Chromebooks. Platform change, European region use, Chromebook use in some countries," she added. / Asian regions also increased.
